he Regional Connector will increase the available recreation opportunities, reduce automobile greenhouse gas pollution, augment employment opportunities, boost regional tourism, and make a critical investment in underserved communities. This project connects and leverages existing regional transportation projects like the Fjord Trail, and Beacon to Hopewell Junction Rail Trail to strengthen sister city connections and increases access to trails throughout the mid-Hudson Valley region.

How do Main Streets contribute to our mental health? On Thursday October 27th The Fullerton is hosting social psychiatrist and author Dr. Mindy Thompson Fullilove around her book, Main Street: How a City's Heart Connects Us All.

For the NY Statewide Preservation Conference, Liz McEnaney and Naomi Hersson-Ringskog will be highlighting the valued partner in their Building Shells: Building Community. Featuring Nick Edwards of City of Newburgh and Sam Wells of City of Albany, the talk will focus on the unique role of Neighborhood Stabilization Coordinators.

Together with artists, Building Shells: Building Community team seeks to pilot how art and design can harness existing building shells to galvanize residents' interest and participation in the field of preservation. The open call seeks to empower the work of artists, designers, architects, and technologists to positively impact the community.

Newburgh doesn’t have a sign at any of its six entrances that welcomes visitors. In working together with local artist, businesses and utility company, we are demonstrating a partnership that stimulates community pride and greets visitors to the city. This is part of the city’s renaissance.

Voting is the cornerstone of democracy. Early voting is just one of the many steps to break down barriers to democracy. To celebrate this historic milestone, a Frederick Douglass sticker will be given at each polling place in Newburgh to honor our past leader who advocated for the universal right to vote. 

On Sunday October 20, 2019 from 9am-2pm, community members and volunteers will convene to start shaping a better welcoming Lake Street Corridor. Following up on the mini-charette hosted in May 2019, community partners will start to physically highlight our natural resources and assets by cleaning up the western perimeter of Muchattoes Lake.

Newburgh Peoples Chorus is a community-based chorus project. This chorus is an action of remembrance, solidarity, and empathy through music. With members of the community with various levels of musical ability and talent we sang songs to model joy and unity with our neighbors!

On Saturday May 11, 2019, Yale alumni and community members will convene to envision a better welcoming pedestrian, stroller, and bicyclist corridor on Lake Street Corridor. Currently the intersection is a dangerous car-dominant area with four traffic lanes and faded crosswalks, creating a barrier for thousands of city residents to access a beloved park. Two projects will be explored with community members: 1) right-size Lake Street Corridor and suggest tactical interventions to calm traffic and  2) propose wayfinding (signage) and green planting to connect the broken emerald necklace with the area’s natural assets (Crystal Lake, Quassaick Creek, Muchattoes Lake and Delano-Hitch Park) .
