CRITICAL MASS BIKE RIDE

"Critical Mass is a cycling event typically held on the last Friday of every month; its purpose is not usually formalized beyond the direct action of meeting at a set location and time and traveling as a group through city or town streets on bikes.

The first critical mass originated in 1992 in San Francisco. By the end of 2003, the social movement has being held in over 300 cities around the world." Wikipedia

Barbershop Readings & Discussion

Barbershops are sacred anchors of our community. This is a place where we come together to confide, to share, to discuss, to observe, to learn, to engage and more. Join a public event at three local barbershops in downtown Newburgh. At each barbershop, the public will read and discuss six short readings by African American authors on the topic of civic engagement.

Shelter & Sweat Equity: A Day of Volunteering

  • 128 William Street Newburgh NY 12550 USA (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

In the spirit of Sukkot, join us for a unique hands-on experience that explores the concept of shelter and sweat equity. Newburgh JCC and Beacon Hebrew Alliance are organizing a Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Day where we will help build a home for a family in Newburgh. A coffee break will be a chance for congregations to meet and mingle and discuss interfaith concepts of shelter.

At 1pm, enjoy a free lunch at JCC Newburgh (290 North Street) and learn about the many amenities that improve the quality of life for both Jews and non-Jews in the Greater Newburgh Area.

At 1:30pm, a special talk, featuring Grannies Respond, will detail the senior activists' journey to the Texas border to fight for human decency.

This is the first of many collaborations between neighboring Jewish communities in the Hudson Valley.

For more information or to register, click here: bit.ly/OTTSshelter a suggested donation of $25 will benefit Habitat for Humanity.

AWESOME NEWBURGH

Newburgh is a proud, culturally-rich and resilient city. We created Awesome Newburgh to promote the city's strengths and to catalyze community projects that engage and bring us together.

Each month, trustees convene to donate $100 and select a local project. We welcome all project ideas, and especially favor those that are open to the public and those that forge new collaborations or partnerships. Whether you are young or old, an individual or an organization, have a small and large project- we want you to apply!

Awesome Newburgh is a volunteer-run group. To learn more, to apply, or get involved visit bit.ly/AwesomeNB or email newburgh@awesomefoundation.org. Follow us www.instagram.com/awesomenewburgh  #awesomenewburgh
